This product has some great features for the small

I bought this printer several years ago. It functions well, first time every time. I bought it because I do lots of card stock printing of items I later watercolor so I needed a printer that did not use ink as it is impossible to water color on ink printed copies. I also like to make colored copies. While the machine is reliable. I have two things I miss a great deal compared to an earlier model that used the original Laser printing process with powered colored laser toners. That printer from Xerox was considerably more expensive to purchase a bit more work and way more cost to purchase the printing supplies. However those laser color printed items were absolutely beautiful and I could do them very quickly on card stock! Even on the heavier water color printer paper. The Versa Link C500 is simply not in the same price range nor in the print quality range. However, if you need to simply makes lots of copies that do not need to be extra special then this is the machine for your home office. The other thing I miss is the ability to always talk to a tech person if I need help with the machine. The chat session way of making customers happy just is not the same a real person and it is huge waste of time to have to type in every bit of the information needed for the Robot helper to figure out what is needed. It may be cheaper for Xerox but sometimes cheaper is inviting the customer to buy cheap products at a big box store and replace every couple of years. A real Customer Service rep indicates that the company thinks enough of their customers that they supply reps who will talk to the customer to problem solve issues. I just can't understand why any company does cheaper customer service only to see that customer never buy from them again? The black print is excellent but the color print toners for the Versa C500 are simply not as good a color quality and not as sharp in print details as the old type of Laser toner supplied.

Reliable

We received this printer as a follow-on from our old reliable Color Cube printer. We have been using it for over three years and have had no problems. The solid ink is easy to install and has a long life.

Great workhorse for small office environment

Print quality and speed are awesome, and the paper drawer takes the entire paper ream. We have two (2) of these in the office and never jammed or had any issues in about two (2) years. You need to be aware that you need to keep stock of four (4) toners, one (1) for each color (C,Y,M,K) plus a waste cartridge. Other than that, print, forget about this printer until you need to replace something.

PRINT QUALITY AND SPEED ARE GREAT (that is, once you get it set up)

This product performs quite well once you get it set up. Changing between different paper types though, is very challenging and does take time. The software features governing this device are cumbersome and clunky. If all your printing is standard 8" x 11" or 8" x 14" paper stock, this is your machine. However, there is a learning curve on changing between different types of paper such as heavy paper, card stock, or envelopes. It is definitely not intuitive, and is a bit complex, so it takes time as well (often more time than you really want to take to deal with it).

Expensive to maintain

Typically Xerox makes a great product, but this is not one of them. I have ink bleed onto the paper and the Xerox guy could not fix it. Also the replacement costs for the ink alone exceed the price of a new printer. Not to mention all the other maintenance items needed to use it.

Versalink C500 poor service

I purchased this machine on March 26, 2021. On March 30, 2021 had technical support help me install it to my computer. Upon following directions I got a paper jam that could not be pulled out. The technician requested that a service technician contact me to repair the problem. He said I would be contacted that day for an appointment. It never happened. I called on March 31st was told I would be contacted that day NO CONTACT I called on April 1st was told I would be contacted that day for an appointment NO CONTACT I was told they had the wrong zip code when it was checked everything was correct. AN EXCUSE I called on April 5th and was told it was a high priority and wsould be contacted that day. NO CONTACT Today is April 6th and still NO CONTACT POOR SERVICE or NO SERVICE I have contacted service multiple times NO RESPONSE
