Print-Quality Problems and Solutions
Use the following table to find solutions to print-quality problems. When the print quality is poor, to correct the problem, select the closest symptom from the following table and refer to the corresponding solution.
Note:At the printer control panel, press the Home button. Touch Device > Information Pages > Troubleshooting Print Quality Page > Print.

The output is too light.
To check the toner level, check the control panel, or use the print driver or the Embedded Web Server. If the toner cartridge is near empty, replace it. For details, refer to Replacing the Toner Cartridge.
Verify that the toner cartridge is approved for use in this printer, and replace the toner cartridge, as needed. For best results, use a Genuine Xerox toner cartridge.
Replace the paper with a recommended size and type, and confirm that your printer and print driver settings are correct.
Verify that the paper is dry and that supported paper is used. If not, change the paper.
Change the paper type settings in the print driver. In the print driver, on the Printing Options tab, select Paper, then change the Other Type setting.
Verify the Print Quality setting in the print driver. In the print driver, on the Printing Options tab, ensure that the Print Quality is set to Standard.
Change the Darken Image setting. For details, refer to the System Administrator Guide at www.xerox.com/office/VLB620docs.
Toner smears or the print rubs off.
The output has stains on the back side.
Change the paper type settings in the print driver. For example, change Plain to Lightweight Cardstock. In the print driver, on the Printing Options tab, select Paper, then change the Other Type setting.
Verify that the paper is the correct size, type, and weight. If not, change the paper settings.
Verify that the printer is plugged in to an outlet that is providing the correct voltage and power. Review the electrical specification of the printer with an electrician, if necessary. For details, refer to Electrical Specifications.
Check the toner level. To check the toner level, check the control panel, or use the print driver or the Embedded Web Server. For details, refer to Supply Status. If the toner cartridge is near empty, replace it. For details, refer to Replacing the Toner Cartridge.
Random spots appear on the output, or the image is blurry.
Ensure that the toner cartridge is installed correctly.
If you used a non-genuine brand toner cartridge, install a Genuine Xerox toner cartridge.
Use the Rough paper type setting, or try a paper with a smoother surface.
Ensure that the humidity in the room is within specifications. For details, refer to Relative Humidity.
Replace the toner cartridge.
The output is blank.
Power off the printer, then power on again.
Remove, then re-install the toner cartridge.
Replace the toner cartridge.
If the error persists, contact your Xerox representative.
Black or white streaks appear on the output.
Replace the toner cartridge.
If the error persists, contact your Xerox representative.
The output has a mottled appearance.
Verify that the paper is the correct size, type, and weight. If not, change the paper settings.
Ensure that the humidity in the room is within specifications. For details, refer to Relative Humidity.
Choose a different paper type at the control panel, in the application, and in the print driver.
Replace the paper.
If the error persists, contact your Xerox representative.
Ghosting appears on the printed output.
Verify that the paper is the correct size, type, and weight. If not, change the paper settings.
Change the Paper Type settings in the print driver. In the print driver, on the Printing Options tab, select Paper, then change the Other Type setting.
Check the percentage of remaining life for the transfer roller. For details, refer to Supply Status. When the percentage of remaining life is less than 20 percent, replace the transfer roller. For details, refer to Replacing the Transfer Roller.
Replace the toner cartridge. For details, refer to Replacing the Toner Cartridge.
If the error persists, contact your Xerox representative.
Auger marks appear on the printed output.
To check the toner level, check the control panel, or use the print driver or the Embedded Web Server. For details, refer to Supply Status. If the toner cartridge is near empty, replace it.
Verify that the toner cartridge is approved for use in this printer, and replace the toner cartridge, as needed. For best results, use a Genuine Xerox toner cartridge.

If the error persists, contact your Xerox representative.
The output print is wrinkled or stained.
Verify that the paper is the correct size, type, and weight for the printer and that the paper is loaded properly. If not, change the paper.
Try a new ream of paper.
Change the Paper Type settings in the print driver. In the print driver, on the Printing Options tab, select Paper then change the Other Type setting.
Envelopes are wrinkled or creased when printed.
Verify that the crease is within 30 mm (1.2 in.) of the four edges of the envelope.
If yes, the printer is printing as expected. Your printer is not faulty.
If not, take the following actions:
Ensure that only C5 envelopes are loaded in Bypass Tray.
Ensure that envelopes are loaded properly in Bypass Tray. For details, refer to Loading Envelopes in the Bypass Tray.
Follow the guidelines for printing on envelopes. For details, refer to Guidelines for Printing Envelopes.
The top margin is incorrect.
Ensure that the paper is loaded properly.
Ensure that the margins are set correctly in the application that you are using.
The printed surface of the paper is bumpy.
Clean the fuser rollers:
1. Print a solid image over the entire surface of one sheet of paper.
2. Load the printed sheet into the tray with the printed side face down.
3. To remove debris from the fuser rollers, pint five blank pages.
Vertical White Lines or Streaks - Process lines or streaks appear in your output.
1. Print the test pages to identify the problem.
Note:To print procedures on resolving print-quality problems, at the control panel, press the Home button, then touch Device > Information Pages > Troubleshooting Print Quality Page > Print.
2. To inspect for possible contamination causing the process line streak, remove and reinsert the imaging unit. For more information, refer to Maintenance.
a. Remove the toner cartridge, then remove the imaging unit from the printer.
b. Insert the imaging unit, then insert the toner cartridge in the printer.
*WARNING: Do not expose the imaging unit to direct light for more than 10 minutes. Extended exposure to light may cause print quality problems.
*WARNING: Do not touch the photoconductor drum. Doing so may affect the quality of future print jobs.
3. If the problem persists, contact your local Xerox representative. The imaging unit may need to be replaced due to permanent damage.
