Printed Electronics and the Smart Grocery Store are Just Around the Corner

Thinfilm and Xerox embark on a deal to mass produce printed electronic chips for packaged goods.

Today, intelligence can be infused into disposable goods through printed “smart” labels for a fraction of the cost of conventional electronics.

The method involves printing circuitry for memory chips on top of plastic, paper and other flexible substrates. The possibilities are endless when it comes to smart packaging — and a potential revolution in the food packaging industry.

For example, Xerox and Thinfilm, a Norwegian technology company, are collaborating to produce smart printed chips for packaging giants that may use billions of chips a year. Imagine what the connected world of things could do for your company and customers.
