Case Study: UC Barcelona Serves Two Campuses with Manged Print

How many devices does it take to satisfy the printing and copying needs of a university with two campuses, and more than 5,000 students and staff? One hundred? One hundred fifty? The International University of Catalonia needs just 67.

Before working with Xerox, the university had around the same number of devices, but the students’ printing needs were far from being met. The key problem was three printing silos: 1. Self-service devices for staff, with 825 staff sharing 48 multifunctional printers, 2. Self-service devices for students, but only 10 devices, and 3. Three central reprographic print rooms.

The student self-service devices were so few and unreliable, students ended up doing most of their printing at the three reprographic centers. That meant long lines, slow turnaround times and limited hours of operation.

But today, with Xerox, any device with internet connectivity can be used to send print jobs to a centralized print queue via an online portal. Then students and staff use their university ID cards to retrieve printouts from any of the university’s new multifunction devices. Self-service device availability is up 300% for students.
