How to Start Connecting to Xerox Remote Print Services

  • Xerox Device Agent is a device manager software application which provides the remote connectivity required for Xerox Remote Print Services.

    1. Ask your Sales Representative to register you for Xerox Device Agent software – a free download.
      Find your sales representative
    2. Follow the instructions in your Xerox® Device Agent registration confirmation email to download and install the Xerox® Device Agent software. If you need further assistance during installation, please reference the Xerox® Device Agent User Guide.

    Xerox Remote Print Services enablement

    The installation of the Xerox® Device Agent software is an essential component to the enablement of Xerox Remote Print Services.

    System Requirements

    Before you can start using the client software, you must ensure that the following requirements are met:

    Operating System: (32- and 64-bit)

    • Windows Server® 2008 with Service Pack 1 and 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1
    • Windows Server® 2012 and 2012 R2Windows Server® 2016
    • Windows® 7 Professional, Enterprise, Home Edition, and Ultimate
    • Windows® 8.1
    • Windows® 10 Professional, Enterprise
    • Apple® OS 10.9.4 or later when run with the Parallels®
    • Desktop hardware emulation software. Go to the Requirements to Run on a Macintosh Operating System section for requirement details.
    • Microsoft®.NET framework4.5.2 Extended (Full Version) installed

    Memory:

    • Windows Server® 2008, 2008 R2, Windows® 7: 1GB of RAM (1.5 GB or higher recommended)
    • Windows® 8.1, Windows® 10, Windows Server® 2012 and higher: 2 GB or RAM (2.5 GB or higher recommended)

    Database:

    • Xerox® Device Agent can use a customer's preexisting full SQL Server. During installation, you can choose a database running on a standalone server
    • SQL Server® Compact Edition
    • SQL Server® 2012 SP3
    • SQL Server® 2014 SP4
    • SQL Server® 2016
    • SQL Server® 2017
    • The software includes Microsoft SQL Server® Compact Edition.

    Processor: 1.7 GHz processor or better

    Hard Disk: Minimum free space is approximately 380 MB, where 280 MB of that is for the Microsoft®.NET 3.5 framework software, if not previously installed.

    Minimum Resolution: 1024x768

  • Device Direct is a method of establishing remote connectivity enabled by a software module embedded in the network controller associated with Xerox equipment. Remote connectivity is necessary both to gather the data required to administer Remote Services like Automated Meter Reads (AMR) and Automated Supplies Replenishment (ASR), as well as to enable other next-generation technical services capabilities.

    Check Connectivity

    To validate whether Device Direct connectivity is already established on your printer or multifunction printer, you may need to log in as a System Administrator to view connectivity status.

    1. From a network-connected computer, open an Internet browser window.
    2. Enter the machine’s IP address in the Address field, and then press [Enter] on the keyboard. The CentreWare Internet Services Description and Alerts page will display.
      • NOTE: The machine’s IP address can be found on the Configuration Report which can be printed from the local user interface of the equipment.
    3. Click on the [Properties] tab. If prompted, log in using the System Administrator username and password. The default username is "admin" and “1111” is the default password.
    4. Click on [Configuration Overview] in the Properties section on the left side of the page. The Configuration Overview window will be displayed.
    5. View the status displayed for SMart eSolutions in the Connectivity and Printing area.
      • NOTE: If a "Fully Configured and Communicating with Xerox" message is displayed, the connectivity setup has been successful. No further action is required.
      • NOTE: If a "Communication Failure" message is displayed, continue with the Device Direct connectivity setup process steps by selecting the model number of the equipment from the list provided:
