Hints and Tips for Carbonless Paper

Here are some helpful hints about using Xerox carbonless paper.

Store it Right
Tip 1: Protect Your Investment with Proper Storage
If you do not use all the paper in a ream of Xerox carbonless paper immediately after opening, close and seal the original ream wrapper to store. Do not leave in paper trays overnight.

Tip 2: Please Use Before. . .
We recommend that you image and use Xerox carbonless paper as a form within one year of receiving your order. For best results, use within four months of receiving.

Loading, Jamming and Compatibility

Tip 1: Be Sure All Systems are "Go" from the Start
To ensure that Xerox carbonless paper is properly programmed and loaded when you are getting ready to run a job, print one complete set. Remove the set from the output module and mark the top sheet with a pen or a pencil. If the paper is loaded correctly, an image should appear on the subsequent sheets within a few seconds. If an image does not appear, check how you have loaded the paper in the feed tray. Note: Since you are running a job involving sequential sheets comprising a set, do not select "Proof" or "Sample" copy during the job. It will disturb the integrity of the set.

Tip 2: Running on Empty
t is normal for some sheets to be left in the tray when "tray empty" is activated, but this can disturb the correct sheet sequence for a pre-collated set. To avoid this problem, remove unused sheets from the bottom of the tray, load tray with full reams, place unused sheets on top of the last ream loaded, and restart job.

Tip 3: Getting Out of a Jam
When you encounter a paper jam while running multi-part pre-collated sets, it is important that you ensure the integrity of the sets after the jam has been resolved. To do this, check the last sheet in the output stack and ensure that the pre-fed sheet in the feed tray follows the proper form sequence. If necessary, discard sheets from the feed tray to ensure the integrity of the finished sets. After a jam, the Xerox 5090/DocuTech machine family discards the first five sheets from the stack/feed tray before recommencing printing. When you are working on these machines, check the last sheet in the output stack and ensure that the sixth sheet in the feed tray maintains the proper sequence of forms. If necessary, discard sheets to ensure the integrity of the finished sets.

Tip 4: Are We Compatible?
Xerox carbonless paper is duplex compatible in a number of machines. Check How to Load for compatibility information on your machine.

Tip 5: Doing a Reversal
You can easily convert a two-part straight pre-collation into a two-part reverse pre-collation by simply putting the top sheet on the bottom of the stack.

Caring for Equipment

Tip 1: Fuser Discoloration: It Happens
When you run Xerox carbonless paper, some discoloration of the fuser is normal. Please DO NOT attempt to clean the fuser roll under any circumstances-you could be injured!

Tip 2: Make Those Transport Belts Shine
Transport belts will require more frequent cleaning when you are running large quantities of Xerox carbonless paper. Follow standard cleaning procedures and clean as often as necessary.

Tip 3: Maintaining Your 4890
You may need to clean your Xerox 4890's pinch rolls and idler rolls when you run large jobs. We recommend you also have them cleaned every time you have a service call. Make sure the stack force height and nip penetrations are set to minimize scuff marks on the second and third sheets. You'll also want to clean and/or change feed belts and retard rolls as required.

Tip 4: Maintaining Your 6180/6155
lease consult your Customer Service Engineer if this interferes with machine reliability.

Carbonless Characteristics

Tip 1: Do You Smell Something?
Xerox carbonless paper has an odor that differs from regular paper. This is normal and is not harmful in any way.

Tip 2: Some Scuffing is Normal
When you are running pre-collated Xerox carbonless paper from friction feed trays, you can expect a slight scuff mark on the second or subsequent sheets.
