We work to provide information systems, processing and support services for a variety of government medical programs, all intended to reduce costs and support informed decisions leading to positive outcomes for a healthier population.

When we implement a new system in a state, it is important that we maintain the federal guidelines in terms of both HIPAA and MITA, but we also have to customize and configure the system to be what each state needs it to be.

I get to work with the state users and our own subject matter experts to ensure that we not only meet all requirements, but that the portal is user-friendly, secure, stable and, of course, fast!

My favorite part is taking a list of data elements or a workflow scenario and figuring out how we can build the web pages that will best accomplish the task, even when people think it might be impossible to translate.

• Database Administrators and Architects who design, secure and manage our extensive database resources and fine-tune our queries to be sure we are getting the best response time possible
• Documentation Specialists and Help Authors who deliver standardized, organized explanations of the systems and processes we are building and implementing
• Architects who manage all of the various products and services that are integrated into our own solutions
• Developers who actually write the code that source code that ensure secure transmission of accurate data to the screens, reports and interfaces
• Trainers who are the first impression of our systems as they go out in the state, provider and member communities to help ensure a smooth transition and reduce the anxiety that is natural with such a significant change
• Subject Matter Experts who understand the plethora of federal and state regulations and the impact of changes or enhancement to other areas of the system
• Testers and Support teams who make sure that our final delivery is the quality and content that is expected

I am most grateful for the flexibility that Xerox offers me, both personally and professionally. On a personal level, I enjoy telecommuting two days each week. On a professional level, Xerox has provided me with opportunities to learn and grow as I have been a programmer, system designer, general problem-solver, and I have had the opportunity to work with our sales team presenting at the national MMIS conference as well as final oral presentations for a number of state procurements.

At Xerox, I have a treasure of personal and professional connections and opportunities available, and you just never know where that might lead.

While it was never a goal of mine, as I consider myself more a "backstage" worker, I am most proud of the faith Xerox shows in me by trusting me to present our system and solution throughout the country. I have travelled to many places and met many people that have each provided comments, questions and suggestions that have all served to make me a better person and to make our system a better solution, all for the ultimate benefit of the healthcare consumer.

I’m more of a coach, a shepherd. SCRUM is an iterative incremental process of software development commonly used with agile software development. With SCRUM, our teams work in small chunks of time and different customers and different groups. This also helps the whole organization get higher quality software out the door so our customers can get what they want. After all, that’s why we’re here. The solutions we develop will be used by banks and other companies with high-volume printing needs, but our real customers are internal groups. They’re right here with us.

I was part of team that moved towards Xerox implementing SCRUM. I started by attending training about SCRUM. I saw the potential for faster turnaround times, less turnover and higher quality. It also tends to foster much happier employees. I said to myself, “I have to be a part of this.” I saw the benefit that SCRUM would bring to Xerox and jumped in with both feet. It’s been a tough but worthwhile process, and we’re definitely seeing the results.

I love solving the big, sticky problems. And the team of developers I have is willing to work through just about any problem. Why? For one, we get along great, and the team excels at not holding back. Also, we work with customers and interact with different groups, so we need to make sure that the best ideas make it out the door.

It starts with good pay, but what’s even better is the wonderful flexibility – the work/life balance that Xerox helps me achieve. If you want to work a different schedule or work from home and can make a business case for it, Xerox will work with you to make it happen. There are a lot of good people here.

I see myself with a real future at Xerox because it’s so easy to make a difference here. They helped me earn a Master’s degree in Imaging Science, and this is preparing me for my next moves. However, there are so many people here willing to help that I know that I’ll always be able to stay in an active role no matter where I go at Xerox.
