Nischal Piratla, Senior Entrepreneur in Residence

Nischal Piratla is Senior Entrepreneur in Residence with Xerox Research Centre India. He manages Innovation portfolio for Document Services Optimization and Outsourcing, and is responsible for the overall Emerging Markets Innovation Strategy.

Before coming back to India in 2010, he was Chief Scientist for Mobile Services & Platforms, at Innovation Development with Deutsche Telekom, USA Lab, with a joint appointment at Deutsche Telekom Labs (T-Labs), Berlin, Germany. He was also associated with the Department of Computer Science, UC Santa Barbara as Adjunct Associate Professor.

He started at T-Labs, Berlin in 2005 as a Senior Research Scientist, and in a year founded its first spin-off, Qiro GmbH, and led it as CTO. After the exit of Qiro, he was a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University and returned to T-Labs as Chief Technologist. His previous terms at industry also include Lucent/Avaya Inc. (2000-2002), Seagate (1999-2000) and CMC (1996-97).

Nischal considers his knowledge/skills in mathematics and his field of expertise, namely networking, mobile services, recommendation systems and HCI as tools which, when properly brewed with intuition and business logic, lead to fascinating innovations. He has formed and worked with teams from more than ten countries. His expertise in technology, ability to go across domains, knowledge of global work cultures and intuitive acumen for business make him an exciting entrepreneur. He believes that a researcher with entrepreneurial spirit brings a very interesting dimension to industry research.

Nischal holds 1 patent and 18 pending applications in USA, Germany (EU), Israel and India. He has also published various technical papers in journals and conferences and has an IETF RFC to his credit. He is a Senior Member of IEEE.

When not building prototypes, Nischal likes to have a cup of latte macchiato, eat European chocolate and hike places where nature is more populous by itself.
