Rochester Engineering Society Celebrates Technical Excellence
|
The Rochester Engineering Society held their annual Gala on Saturday, April 5th at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.
RES promotes and celebrates excellence, innovation, cooperation, professional growth and fellowship in the engineering, scientific and allied professions.
|
The Society's programs and services are dedicated to enhancing the profession and the community, while encouraging the growth and development of engineers and scientists for the future.
Founded in 1897, RES is a multi-disciplinary society uniting diverse disciplines to enhance professional development, foster excitement in math and science for the next generation of leaders, and improve communities where members live. The Society supports individual engineers, local affiliates of national engineering societies, schools of engineering, and professional firms. RES provides many opportunities to learn, to build relationships and to contribute to the community.

It is with great pride that the XIG community congratulates Vishal Monga on being awarded the 2008 RES Young Engineer of the Year award.
Vishal is a MR&TS II in the Xerox Research Center Webster. He has a background in electrical engineering and specialization in communications, signal and image processing, and color imaging. Vishal has been involved in several key projects with positive impacts both to the scientific community as well as the Xerox business over the past few years. These include image hashing, efficient color calibration and characterization techniques, and halftone independent color correction. For the past year he has also been the primary lead on a new prototype color fidelity project we are beta testing with current production customers, which is a key element to helping Xerox explore the New Business of Printing.
Vishal has also served as the Xerox Liaison for two University collaborations. The first is a Center for Electronic Imaging Systems (CEIS) grant with University of Rochester focused on high-rate data embedding and automated recovery from hardcopy. Vishal is also involved in a University Affairs Committee proposal with Prof. Pierre Moulin at University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign (UIUC).
Vishal has his doctoral degree in electrical engineering, and his engineering research efforts are focused in the mathematical aspects of image processing. In that regard, his primary involvement has been in the premier electrical engineering society - Institute for Electronics and Electrical Engineers (IEEE).
Please join us in congratulating Vishal on this very deserved recognition.
