CHICAGO, Sept. 09, 2005  -- Print providers looking for an entry point into production color printing can now equip Xerox Corporation's (NYSE: XRX) DocuColor™ 250 Digital Color Printer with a choice of three professional-class color servers from Xerox, Creo Inc. and EFI (Nasdaq: EFII).

The new color servers - which control and drive images to the DocuColor 250 - are designed to meet the needs of a range of print environments, including commercial print shops, graphic communications firms and in-house printing operations.

The DocuColor 250 can print and copy at 50 pages per minute in color and 65 pages per minute in black-and-white. Xerox is also equipping the DocuColor 240, which operates at speeds of 40 pages per minute in color and 55 pages per minute in black-and-white, with the Creo and EFI color servers. The new systems are based on a new Xerox color platform announced in June as part of Xerox's office product portfolio. The DocuColor 240/250 is now being extended to production printing environments.

The DocuColor 240/250 color servers produce high-quality color documents with a variety of print control features that fit into existing workflow processes. Customers can choose from the following options:

  • Xerox FreeFlow™ DocuSP™ DXP250 Color Server - The DXP250 system, based on the FreeFlow DocuSP 5.0 controller, offers an easy-to-use interface with advanced color management and security features. The DocuSP print controller is Pantone-licensed, enabling the DocuColor 250 to replicate precise colors in the Pantone Matching System. Xerox has the industry's broadest line of Pantone-licensed digital color production systems, from the DocuColor 250 to the flagship Xerox iGen3™ Digital Production Press. The DocuSP DXP250 Color Server also has a scan-to-network feature that allows people to easily create a comprehensive document scanning station that instantly creates a repository of scanned files on a network. Because it is offered on 46 Xerox printing systems, FreeFlow DocuSP easily integrates into Xerox's other FreeFlow workflow offerings and minimizes operator training and administration.
  • Creo Spire CX250 Color Server - The Spire CX250 color server is available in three configurations, from a remotely controlled version to a fully configured control station with a professional upgrade kit. The Spire CX250 Professional Upgrade Kit enables the DC250 to serve the high-end production market that requires highly accurate calibration and advanced color management options. The Spire CX250 supports imposition, secured remote scan options, production workflow tools, and variable data printing in all leading file formats.
  • EFI Fiery EXP250 Color Server - The Fiery EXP250 provides a suite of color precision and control tools, variable-data print support, and advanced workflow and security features. Fiery options available on the EXP250 include the exclusive Fiery® Production Printing Package, which automates processes, reduces the need for operator intervention, includes an advanced preview and editing capabilities, and features Paper Catalog, a database that stores the attributes of different paper stocks and automatically optimizes printing.
To achieve professional-grade image quality, the DocuColor 240/250 uses a proprietary 32-beam laser invented by Xerox, rather than a traditional 2-beam laser, to write text and images at a higher rate and resolution. The 32-beam laser technology provides advanced image quality, including fine line and shadow detail associated with production-class devices. It also delivers true 2400 x 2400 dpi copies and prints without sacrificing print speeds. Images contain 5.7 million pixels per square inch, which is 16 times the resolution of competitive products. Color consistency is assured over time with Xerox's Trickle Charge Development technology, which regularly adds fresh developer to the system, keeping it running at the highest image quality.

Pricing and availability
The DocuColor 240 Digital Printer/Copier is available with a stand-alone color server with list prices starting at $53,500. The DocuColor 250 Digital Printer/Copier is available with a stand-alone color server with list prices starting at $59,500. The EFI Fiery EXP250 will be available worldwide in September, and the Xerox FreeFlow DocuSP DXP250 and Creo Spire CX250 will be available in the fourth quarter.
