ROCHESTER, N.Y., Jan. 09, 2004  -- Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) has awarded its annual Xerox Technical Minority Scholarships to 150 graduate and undergraduate students from across the country for high academic achievement in the fields of science, engineering and technology.

The Xerox Technical Minority Scholarship Program, funded by The Xerox Foundation, was developed to demonstrate Xerox's strong commitment to the academic success of minority students and to the cultivation of qualified minority employees in technical fields.

"The Xerox Foundation is committed to investing in colleges and universities that enhance learning opportunities for minorities. The Technical Minority Scholarship further demonstrates Xerox's dedication to supporting diversity by helping young minorities achieve their academic and professional goals," said Joseph Cahalan, vice president, The Xerox Foundation.

The 150 winners come from more than 30 states from Maine to California, and approximately 100 colleges and universities, including Rochester Institute of Technology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Rochester, Oregon State University and Stanford University. Each winning student, chosen from 756 qualified applicants, will receive $1,000 toward college tuition costs for the 2003-2004 school year. The total funding for the students' awards is $150,000.

The scholarship program began in 1987; since then, more than 1,150 students have benefited from $1.7 million in funding.

Scholarships are made available to minority students enrolled in technical degree programs at the bachelor's degree level or above. Eligible students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and show financial need. Recipients of the scholarship were notified by letter in December. Students are allowed to reapply for the scholarship on an annual basis.

"Nurturing a diverse workforce of highly skilled technical professionals has been Xerox's philosophy for over 25. Embracing diversity is imperative to our business success and helps us attract and maintain long-standing business relationships with customers worldwide," said Sophie Vandebroek, Xerox chief engineer.
