The enhanced software, launched here at the PC Expo technology trade show, works with three new components to help enterprise customers better manage information and improve business processes.

"The advanced functionality and development possibilities of these new software components, running on top of the new DocuShare platform, validate that DocuShare can be an effective solution for enterprise customers," said Rich Medina, principal analyst at Doculabs, Inc., an independent research and consulting firm that helps organizations reduce the risk associated with technology investments.

The new software components include two add-on modules that make it easier for end users to share information:

• DocuShare Enterprise Workflow - Built on the Dralasoft Workflow™ engine, the Enterprise Workflow add-on component extends DocuShare's core document approval and routing capabilities, allowing people to increase productivity by streamlining and monitoring complex document-centric business processes. For example, the add-on can be used to route and approve loan documents, track purchase orders or automate employment application reviews.
  
• DocuShare Interact - For Web collaboration on team projects and documents, DocuShare users can integrate DocuShare Interact - an add-on built on Sparrow Web^® technology developed at Palo Alto Research Center, a subsidiary of Xerox. DocuShare Interact allows people to create shared, collaborative Web pages for project management, reports, calendars, meetings, to-do lists, blogs, and other types of group work that needs to be published and updated on the Web. The software makes writing to the Web as easy as reading from it. DocuShare users with no HTML experience can quickly and easily contribute content into the DocuShare Interact page through any browser interface without additional applications or plug-ins.

"With more than 250 users across the state who need to share information and documents, DocuShare 3.1 with DocuShare Interact helps us track hundreds of projects and collaborate via the Web," said Phyllis Jacobson, a consultant with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. "It's so easy - you can add content in just three clicks, and it's immediately available for others to review and manipulate."

In addition, there is a complete suite of programming tools that allow technology partners to tailor DocuShare for their particular needs. The DocuShare Developer Environment enables further development and customization of DocuShare solutions. Its application program interfaces (APIs) and integration components allow value-added resellers, system integrators and technology partners to build collaboration, imaging and workflow solutions using DocuShare. The DSDE has already been used to integrate DocuShare with products from Kofax, Omtool, Sun Microsystems Inc., ScanSoft and Covigna, delivering a range of sophisticated solutions for specific industries such as healthcare, education, manufacturing and financial services.

The entry-level U.S. list price for a complete DocuShare system with 10 seats is $4,045 and a 100-seat system is $9,995. Existing DocuShare 3.0 customers with a support agreement can upgrade to DocuShare 3.1 at no charge. The software is available through Xerox direct sales representatives, agents, Xerox Business Partners and TeleWeb sales channels.
