ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 14, 2008  -- Rochester's world-renowned jazz festival will now include the backing of the Xerox brand, as it becomes the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival in 2009.

"We're thrilled to welcome Xerox as our first title sponsor," said Marc Iacona, co-producer and executive director, Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival. "Having the Xerox brand behind us means we'll be able to continue to deliver an outstanding high quality event that presents the world's finest artists and an even more diverse mix of jazz to the tens of thousands of people who attend."

Now in its eighth year, the Festival will be held June 12-20 in more than a dozen venues in and around Rochester's East End Cultural District. The Xerox sponsorship will include document services, event promotions for customers and employees, and charitable programs surrounding Festival activities.

"The growing momentum and the vibrant spirit of the Jazz Festival represent the essence of our new brand, and the event activities provide opportunity to reaffirm our connection to the Rochester community," said Christa Carone, vice president, marketing and communications, Xerox Corporation. "While our branding and marketing strategies continually evolve, our strong commitment to Rochester remains unchanged."

Xerox also said it is not renewing its sponsorship of the Xerox PGA Classic in 2009, choosing instead to pursue a broader mix of sponsorship initiatives like the Jazz Festival and other local activities including support of the Wegmans LPGA.

In addition to Xerox's local sponsorships, the company continues to invest in Rochester through these and other community activities:

  • Educational, cultural and community contributions of more than $25 million over 10 years including an annual $1 million gift to the United Way, a recent $2 million grant to the RIT Golisano Center on Sustainability and a $1 million grant to the University of Rochester for the Wilmot Cancer Center.
  • 80 Xerox employee and retiree volunteers participate in the Xerox Science Consultant Program, teaching hands-on science lessons at 24 local schools.
  • The FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics program pairs Xerox engineers with four, company-funded teams of local high school students to compete in regional and global competitions.
  • Xerox's Social Service Leave program enables Rochester-based employees to take paid leaves to work full time for local community agencies, such as Foodlink and Gilda's Club.
