As the authorised Xerox distributor to 24 sub-Saharan countries, Bytes Document Solutions, previously known as Xerox South Africa, is engaged in the marketing and servicing of the complete range of Xerox document equipment, software, solutions and services and operates through an extensive network of Distributors, Dealers, Concessionaires and Channel Partners.

Bytes Documents Solutions is a division of Bytes Technology Group South Africa (PTY) LTD, which has two shareholders namely, Bytes Technology Group Limited a JSE listed entity, which has 73% shareholding, and Kagiso Trust Investments, which has 27% shareholding.

Bytes Document Solutions has a business model that has six independent business units, which are managed by, experienced and energised divisional managers. The business units are as follows.

Xerox Global Services

Xerox Global Services ("XGS") helps customers to look at their business from a new dimension. The Xerox Global Services business unit has extensive experience at increasing business process efficiency, reducing costs and improving end user productivity.

This managed services business unit is of the highest pedigree. It has the necessary scale, stability and methodology, tools, process and expertise to deliver on its value proposition.

By looking at their offices differently, and by innovatively contracting for savings, enterprises can save millions of Rands per annum and deliver significant improvements to business performance and shareholder value.

Office Group


The Office Systems Group Division ("OSG") at Bytes Document Solutions has a vision to become the primary supplier of office automation products in Africa. It aims to achieve this with a proficient market engagement model. The model comprises of authorised concessions in the metropolitan areas, authorised dealers in the outlying areas, authorised dealers in certain African countries and retail distributors that have a reseller base.

Office Systems Group's energized Divisional Manager believes: "Through an indirect operation, our focus is on creating pull for the Xerox products and ensuring that our clients' needs are fulfilled."

Offering a full range of low- to high-end Xerox products, to remain ahead of the pack in this dynamic market, Office Systems Group ensures that its entire product offering is of a superior quality and competitively priced.

Printing Systems Group

Xerox is the high volume and high-speed digital printing industry pioneer and continues to lead efforts to help businesses profit from the ongoing digital printing evolution.

Xerox's primary high-end product families are:
  • DocuPrint for enterprise printing
  • Xerox Nuvera and DocuTech for digital on-demand printing and
  • DocuColor and iGen3 for digital full-colour printing
Printing Systems Group, ("PSG") is responsible for production colour, production black-and-white and highlight colour digital presses in cut-sheet and wide-format systems. These systems are application driven; they are installed based on the customer's needs and the requirements of his customers.

As with all Bytes Document Solutions business units, PSG aspires to the highest possible standard of responsiveness and customer service, ensuring the highest level of uptime and system availability.

Office Supplies Division


Xerox is one of the world's leading providers of imaging supplies and paper. From toner, inks and print cartridges to various types of paper and printing materials, supplies are an important part of the company's overall business.

The Office Supplies Department ("OSD") at Bytes Document Solutions ensures customers across South Africa receive their paper and toner on time, every time. OSD deploys efficient logistics across much of southern Africa to support its customers and ensure a profitable, customer-centric business.

The vision is simple: for OSD to become the consumable supplier of choice in what is a highly competitive market, characterised by high volumes and low margins. OSD aims to present every company with the widest choice of supplies to help them promote their corporate images through the most professional documents, while saving time and money.

Laser Facilities

Laser Facilities has made a significant business out of managing the digital printing and bulk mailing of the corporate world's communications.

Laser Facilities is the market leader in South Africa in the fields of digital printing, automated mailing and related services providing such services to blue chip and other companies in every sector of industry and commerce, along with local government.

These services include:
  • Variable information and variable data printing - statements, payslips, direct marketing voters rolls, management reports and transaction reports, price lists

Technical Services.

The technical services division is focused on providing our customers with a first class after sales experience and this is achieved through:

  • Emergencies spares available around the clock, nationally
  • Fully computerised national call-centre, using best of practice international standards
The business units are supported by central shared services such as Group Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, Logistics and Warehousing.

XEROX AND BYTES DOCUMENT SOLUTIONS ON QUALITY

Bytes Document Solutions has a customer-centric focus, with a philosophy of, "The customers comes first, second and third."

Bytes Document Solutions is ISO 9001: 2000 certified for its quality processes and safety compliance. All products are imported from Xerox, are manufactured against stringent Six Sigma criteria and carry British Standards Institute approval. In addition, in keeping with South African import regulations, the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) approves all products for safety.

Customer satisfaction levels are monitored monthly by an independent third-party. 400 of the company's 5 500 customers are surveyed monthly. Sales, loyalty and service satisfaction levels are measured. 95% is the targeted satisfaction level for all areas being measured.

Service quality is delivered through a national network of technicians and engineers and a highly responsive call centre, which operates against stringent international benchmark standards. Contributing to service quality, technicians and engineers vehicles are fully equipped for all common machine faults and are replenished daily. Service efficiency is further improved by send-a-part; they deliver the uncommon spares on site to the technicians during the service call.

XEROX AND BYTES DOCUMENT SOLUTIONS ON CSI

Bytes Document Solutions believes in being a responsible corporate citizen by investing 2% of its profit after tax in this important area of business activity.

The social and economic development function of the organisation focus on, Corporate Social Investment and Skills Development external to training.

Corporate Social Investment

Previous social investment projects involved the adoption of Tembisa High and Nyiko Primary; the adoption of the schools by Bytes Document Solutions has afforded the schools:

Bytes Technology Group and Bytes Document Solutions divided the digital divide by providing a school in Orange Farm with a computer centre.

The University of the North West received a donation for the development of a SeTswana spell check.

For the next three years focus will be directed to rural schools in Kwa - Zulu Natal. The up-liftment project will target the following schools in the Kwa Zulu Natal region:
  • Fundokuhle High School
  • Mhlumba Primary School
  • Phathakahle High School
  • Verdiet Primary School
  • Lethukuthula Jnr Primary School
The elements of our up-liftment project include renovating the schools buildings, providing the laboratories with a face-lift as well as building computer centres with the relevant technology. The first phase of the project was launched in July of this year. The goal is that at the completion of the project, the students in the schools will be exposed to technology, appreciate the value of technology in today's world and benefit from the skills that they have acquired.

Skills Development

Bytes Document Solutions invests 3% of payroll on the development of its workforce. The company also has a study aid programme, which encourages employees to develop themselves, and financially supports job related studies. Realising the importance of education, Bytes Document Solutions also affords low-income earners assistance with their children's school fees.

XEROX AND BYTES DOCUMENT SOLUTIONS ON THE ENVIRONMENT

Xerox is a pioneer in designing and building waste-free products. In a world of finite resources, Xerox uses materials and energy efficiently to minimise waste and emissions.

Xerox will continue innovating in such a way as to reduce the company's and its customers' impact on the environment.

Bytes Document Solutions complies and supports all the environmental standards Xerox has embraced. All equipment sold in South Africa is recycled; all reusable parts are remanufactured and reused.

The technical division runs a toner cartridge collection program, where all used toner cartridges are collected and sent back to the UK for remanufacturing, that eliminates Xerox toner cartridges contributing to the non biodegradable waste in the country as well as toner cartridges ending up in the black market where they are refilled in a hazardous manner.
