While healthcare debates span countless topics – most will agree that in the end – the main goal for healthcare organizations is to continually identify ways to improve processes that in turn, lead to better patient care.

Given this common thread that unites all healthcare organizations, we established the Midas+ Platinum Quality Awards, recognizing organizational achievement in areas including quality outcomes, care efficiency, and consistent delivery of evidence-based best practices in nursing and medicine. On an annual basis, we ask our more than 600 Midas+ customers to complete a quality scorecard – and those hospitals that rank in the top five percent are our Platinum winners.

Each year we’re impressed by the progress our winners have made and the process improvement solutions that are saving lives. For example, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, IL – a  Midas+ customer for more than 20 years and 2012 Platinum winner – used Midas+ to collect leading indicator information for patients requiring bowel surgery.  By modifying treatment and further educating patients prior to surgery, Good Samaritan Hospital has reduced the number of patients experiencing post operative renal failure.

Winners of the Platinum Quality Award are successful in addressing one of the biggest challenges in healthcare today – using information to improve the quality of patient care. At Midas+, we have a front row seat to see the impact organizations have when they integrate data across different IT systems and use it to deliver, and even predict, the best care for patients. These awards honor that commitment to go beyond EMR implementation requirements and measurably advance the quality of care.

Organizations such as Good Samaritan Hospital are what the Platinum Quality Awards are all about: showcasing the healthcare organizations that have made the decision to proactively utilize modern software in order to provide the best possible experience for patients.

DALLAS – New Mexico’s Human Services Department is renewing its partnership with Xerox (NYSE: XRX) with a 58-month, $105 million contract to manage and enhance the state’s delivery of quality health care to Medicaid recipients.

Xerox has administered Medicaid services for New Mexico since 1994. Last year, Xerox processed 23 million claims and handled $3.5 billion in Medicaid payments. Under the new contract, which has three one-year renewal options, Xerox will continue to manage but also upgrade the system, known as the Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS).

Improvements to the system’s Medicaid Web portal will give users more control of their involvement with the program. Medicaid recipients will now be able to view their own eligibility data, request replacement ID cards, and even search for providers up to 100 miles away from a specific ZIP code or address. Currently, recipients have no self-service access to program information and functionality through the system’s portal.

With real-time processing of claims and other transactions, the upgraded portal will eliminate stacks of enrollment forms by letting health care providers submit enrollment applications online.

“Through the new system, health care providers will have the ability to submit a claim online and know instantly if it’s approved for payment,” said Julie Weinberg, director, Medical Assistance Division, New Mexico Human Services Department.

“Our continued partnership with the state means beneficiaries will have innovative health care tools at a time when government agencies are focused on making the most of their budget dollars,” said Will Saunders, group president, Xerox Government Healthcare Solutions. “We implement service offerings that allow states to provide the highest level of service to their citizens without cutting programs.”

Xerox operates Medicaid systems for 11 other states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Department of Labor, and annually processes more than 570 million Medicaid claims and $50 billion in payments.

LOS ANGELES and NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. – Drivers in downtown Los Angeles may have more time on their hands starting today. LA ExpressPark™ goes live, an advanced parking system developed by Xerox (NYSE: XRX) and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT), that applies new technology and demand-based pricing to increase the availability of limited parking spaces, relieve traffic congestion and reduce air pollution.

The one-year pilot funded by a $15 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation includes:
  • Real-Time Parking Guidance Systems – Information will be displayed on street-side signs and a smartphone app called Parker™ from Streetline, which enables motorists to view parking options based on pricing, location and real-time availability. Sensors in the parking spaces track occupancy and update the app when a space becomes available.
  • New Parking Meter Technology – New meters and upgraded multi-space pay stations will be installed for approximately 6,000 on-street parking spaces. The new meters will accept a variety of payment methods, including credit cards, coins and payments made by phone that are charged to a driver’s account.
  • Parking Management System – Xerox will deliver its Merge™ Parking Management System to process all parking-related transactions and provide real-time parking data analytics to LADOT and drivers.
"Downtown is the heart and soul of Los Angeles, and has experienced significant growth over the last decade," said Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. "LA ExpressPark's dynamic system will make parking in downtown easier, faster, and smarter for all Angelenos."

“Years of planning, research and innovation are playing out on the streets of Los Angeles in an effort to better serve its citizens,” said Dave Amoriell, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Transportation, Central and Local Government Sector, Xerox. “Intelligent parking services, like LA ExpressPark, make it easier for people to find and pay for parking. This keeps traffic flowing, reduces time spent and fuel consumed searching for a parking space and creates more frequent turnover for businesses.”

Xerox Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ursula Burns will be speaking on May 21 about LA ExpressPark, and several of Xerox’s groundbreaking transportation solutions during the opening plenary session at the Intelligent Transportation Society of America’s (ITSA) 22nd Annual Meeting and Exposition. The keynote session can be viewed live today at 10 a.m. ET at http://www.itsa.org/annualmeeting/livestream.

ITS America Expo, which runs May 21-23 in National Harbor, Maryland, will focus on how city, state and national agencies can leverage advances in transportation technology to create more efficient, safer and cleaner communities.

The transportation technologies Xerox will showcase at ITS America Expo include:
  • Congestion Management Tolling – Xerox’s unique, dynamic pricing algorithms help improve parking and tolling management by adjusting prices at any given time based on current demand to help keep traffic flowing and reduce congestion. Xerox will demonstrate how its expertise in imaging is being applied to dynamic pricing technology to improve collection and enforcement.
  • Public Transit – Xerox will demonstrate the SmartTraveler Plus app, which gives commuters mobile access to real-time schedule and route information via phone and personal computing devices.
  • Data Analytics – Using data that transportation agencies already have, Xerox will show how they are able to “make sense” of that information so transportation managers can find patterns, trends and solutions. By using a “city dashboard,” including heat maps that illustrate different levels of transportation activity, city managers get an accurate snapshot at any given moment in various parts of a city.
Xerox is a leader in the implementation of technology in transportation including operating the PrePass system which electronically screens and clears 425,000 registered trucks and is the single largest nationwide ITS implementation in the United States.

DALLAS – Xerox (NYSE: XRX) has formed an alliance with CHOICE Administrators Exchange Solutions in all 50 states to offer a comprehensive, secure, cloud-based Health Insurance Exchange (HIX) solution. States can begin implementing and customizing the solution today with confidence that the HIX will be fully operational for October 2013 enrollments and  for January 2014 coverage effective dates, the deadlines set by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

“Our discussions with states show that the majority want to make health reform as state-specific as possible and to maintain control over their HIX rather than defaulting to the federal solution,” said Kevin Counihan, president, CHOICE Administrators Exchange Solutions. “As the certification deadline gets closer, it’s increasingly important for states to consider a comprehensive solution that doesn’t require building a product and allows time for customization. States can tailor their HIX solution developed by Xerox and CHOICE to meet the needs of their residents and small businesses and be sure their HIX is ready on time.”

CHOICE Administrators Exchange Solutions delivers the framework of the HIX Solution Suite, a software-as-a-service cloud-based platform, which allows participants to make informed enrollment decisions while providing their sponsoring employers the infrastructure to maintain affordable budgets. Xerox provides the business process and technology solutions to help states operating a HIX handle massive amounts of information quickly, efficiently and securely on behalf of millions of people.

“Xerox has more than 40 years of experience working with state governments,” said Kevin Walsh, vice president, Healthcare Eligibility and Insurance Exchange Services, Xerox. “Our expertise, knowledge of the marketplace and partnership with CHOICE positions us well to support the HIX design to increase access to health coverage for consumers.”

LOS ANGELES -- For many businesses it’s tough to find the “just right” solution to copying CDs or DVDs. Say you need to distribute 50 copies of a sales-training video on DVD to your team once a quarter. Copying the DVDs one-at-a-time is inefficient, but purchasing a duplicator during today’s challenging business climate might be a financial stretch.

With this in mind, Xerox (NYSE:XRX) today introduced the Xerox le (lite edition) Disc Duplicator series.  Priced nearly 30-percent less than the standard Xerox Disc Duplicator, the “le” series manual tower duplicators range from one to 15 writer drives and provide businesses a quick and inexpensive way to make multiple copies of CDs and DVDs.

The “le” models include the essential duplication elements required to reliably deliver high-quality copies, and they also are simple to operate. The user simply inserts a single master into the top reader drive, and the duplicator copies the content onto the corresponding blank media located in the writer drives below.

“We recognize that some businesses don’t require the advanced duplication features that our standard duplicators offer, but they still want an exceptional product,” said Vinpower Digital Vice President of Sales and Marketing Ryan Swerdloff. “The lite edition series offers the quality and reliability one would expect from a Xerox Disc Duplicator at a price that acknowledges today’s demanding business climate.”

Vinpower Digital works with Xerox through an exclusive trademark licensing agreement to develop, market, and support Xerox-branded duplicators. Available now, the new “le” product line is part of Xerox’s Digital Duplicator series, which includes standalone manual towers and automated CD, DVD, Blu-ray, and LightScribe capable duplicators as well as USB and SD/MicroSD flash memory.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Xerox (NYSE: XRX) has been positioned as a leader in the May 2012 report: “The Forrester Wave TM  Managed Print Services (MPS) Q2 2012.” Xerox received this recognition for its MPS offering upon receiving the top vendor ranking in current offering and market presence, and the highest score possible in strategy.

“Xerox has an extremely well-balanced offering, with strength across all categories, including platform support; global deployments; ITO support; and, in particular, enterprise support,” wrote report author Craig Le Clair, vice president and principal analyst, Forrester Research. “Xerox’s market reach has been enhanced through integration with its ITO business, expansion to many partners in the small and medium-sized business (SMB) space, as well as partnering with global delivery.”

The report warns that enterprises still purchasing devices from multiple sources, and under different budgets will struggle to meet emerging print reduction and sustainability goals if they don’t adopt an MPS strategy. Xerox’s “extremely well-balanced offering,” is well suited for an MPS market that will evolve to include production as well as office equipment.

Forrester distinguishes Xerox with the highest possible scores in global delivery, mobile printing, technology and solution ownership, integration of IT outsourcing support, enterprise print support, MPS market experience, MPS strategy, organizational commitment, MPS revenue, and enterprise engagement.

“The MPS market continues to be dynamic, while Xerox’s leadership is a constant – demonstrating to our clients and channel partners that our strategies, tools and techniques deliver impressive, repeatable results around the world,” said Andrew Morrison, senior vice president, Xerox Managed Print Services.

In the past year, Xerox expanded its offerings with the acquisition of NewField IT to simplify the MPS assessment process and speed up implementation, and an alliance with Cisco that integrates Xerox's MPS and mobile print offerings into Cisco routers/switches and expands the opportunity for the midmarket via Cisco's channel partners. In addition, Xerox is now partnering with McAfee and Cisco to build even more protection into its document technology and MPS offerings in ways that help protect clients’ sensitive company information.
