The Best of the Best - Award Winners

Congratulations to the winners of the 2011 Xerox Best-of-the-Best Contest. Competition was fierce, with an incredible number of graphic communications entries submitted by the Xerox Premier Partners Global Network.

A panel of judges were impressed by the innovation and results-generating applications that truly showcased the capabilities and potential of Xerox digital printing equipment. Digital Trailblazer Award
Keiger Direct – Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Digital Trailblazer

Keiger Direct helped Salem College boost enrollment by 11% through targeted cross-media campaigns integrating email, PURLs, photos, videos and personalized brochures. They used XMPie® software and technology to integrate variable data elements and produced the brochures on the Xerox™ iGen4™ Digital Press with a CX Print Server powered by Creo®.
Books
Evolv Solutions, LLC – Overland Park, Kansas, Books

When Evolv Solutions decided to make a print version of their online magazine, MBEConnect, they leveraged their existing partnership with Xerox. They produced the printed version on their Xerox 700 Digital Color Press with an EX Print Server powered by Fiery®. Within two months, their website traffic nearly doubled, and the print version was so popular that they are now publishing it every month.
La Imprenta Ya – Buenos Aires, Argentina, Books

La Imprenta Ya was hired to print a book compiling the dissertations of all of the speakers at the Latin American Congress for Special Education. With the speeches unavailable until a few days before the conference, they were faced with an extremely tight turnaround. They met this challenge by digitally printing the books, using their Xerox 700 Digital Color Press for the full-color cover and the Xerox Nuvera™ 120 Digital Copier/Printer for the black-and-white interior. Many attendees of the conference have since become customers of La Imprenta Ya, increasing the print volume on their Xerox Nuvera by 300%.
Pazazz – Montréal, Canada, Books

Short-run digital printing was the perfect fit for Pazazz to produce the Canadian Architecture Edition catalogue, showcasing Canada's leading engineers, designers and architects. Printed on a Xerox iGen4 Digital Press with a CX Print Server powered by Creo, the catalog captured the rich colors and fine details of the architects bold, intricate designs. Pazazz now uses the catalogue as a marketing piece to show customers and prospoects the quality that can be achieved with digital printing.

Collateral
Docucopy Pty Ltd – Carlton, Australia, Collateral

Salvo Property Group and their marketing communications agency, Extension Marketing, engaged Docucopy to produce an oversized, high-end photo book to showcase their luxury residential developments. The book, printed on Docucopy's Xerox Color 1000 Press paired with a CX Print Server powered by Creo®, aided in the selling of 400 luxury units.
DG3 Europe Limited – London, UK, Collateral, Best Overall Solution

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, the largest youth charity in the UK, wanted to enable their award winners to create and order personalized Achievement Packs online. They approached DG3 Europe Limited, who mapped out an end-to-end solution using FreeFlow Process Manager™ and the Xerox iGen4 Digital Press with a Xerox FreeFlow™ Print Server – resulting in a 637% increase in usage of the achievement pack.
Keiger Printing – Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Collateral

Chemcraft's trends brochure, forecasting where the interior wood stain and finish industry is headed, needed to be produced with printed colors precisely matching the actual stain samples. Keiger Printing offered them the perfect solution – digitally printed short runs to meet their tight deadlines, printed on a Xerox iGen4 Press with a CX Print Server powered by Creo.

IOS – Essex, United Kingdom, Digital and Offset

IOS helped Mercedes-Benz UK implement a direct mail campaign, personalized and tailored to each recipient. They created acquisition packs with individual profiles for each customer, printed on their Xerox iGen4 Digital Press with a CX Print Server powered by Creo with covers produced on a Heidelberg® offset press The campaign has achieved an incredible ROI of 53:1 for Mercedes-Benz UK, and they have now make targeted, personalized campaigns a fundamental part of their ongoing marketing activities.
MagnetStreet – Wheaton, Illinois, Digital and Offset

Building on its success in wedding save-the-date magnets and cards, MagnetStreet sought to transition into the lucrative wedding invitations market. They created a LookBook, which showcased their wedding invitations, thank you cards and other offerings. Color consistency and print quality was maintained across the digital and offset elements by utilizing the Xerox iGen4 Digital Press with a FreeFlow Print Server. As a result, the MagnetStreet's wedding invitation orders increased by 103% and their revenue grew by over $2.5 million in just 12 months.
IOS – Essex, United Kingdom, Digital and Offset

The Daily Telegraph, a U.K. newspaper with a circulation of over 650,000, wanted to redesign their voucher booklet to make it easier for subscribers to obtain copies of the newspaper every day. By working with IOS, they were able to reengineer the book into a subscriber-friendly, A5 stitched booklet with perforated vouchers, all while increasing usage, response rates and advertising demand. Printed offset and then precisely overprinted with variable information using their Xerox Nuvera™ 288 MX Perfecting Production System with a CX Print Server powered by Creo, IOS now produces 50,000 voucher booklets per week.

Digital Packaging
De Budelse b.v. – Budel, Netherlands, Digital Packaging

De Budelse saw an opportunity to expand their offerings and capitalize on the recent growth of the digital packaging industry by creating FotoChoco.nl – a website that enabled their customers to send personalized boxes of chocolate as gifts. XMPie variable data software allows the customer to personalize the box with their own text and photos, and the boxes are printed on a Xerox iGen4 Digital Press with FreeFlow Print Server. In the Christmas season alone, FotoChoco.nl sold over 11,000 personalized chocolate boxes, netting $100,000.
K-Print Co., Ltd. – Tokyo, Japan, Digital Packaging

K-Print expanded their offerings by creating personalized gift boxes, printed on their Xerox iGen3™ Digital Production Press with a FreeFlow™ Print Server. They heavily marketed their new service using web-based promotion, blogs and online social networking sites. Orders poured in, and they could immediately see increases in site traffic when the personalized packages were mentioned in blog entries or Twitter updates.
Mediaware Digital Limited – Dublin, Ireland, Digital Packaging

When Microsoft® launched Windows® 7, they needed a way to speed distribution, lower cost, reduce obsolescence, and add anti-counterfeiting security measures to every package. Mediaware met all of these needs by digital printing the packaging on their Xerox iGen4 Digital Press with Xerox Automated Packaging Solution powered by Stora Enso Gallop® and FreeFlow Print Server. As a result, lead time on product boxes was reduced from 20 days to 72 hours.

Direct Marketing
CopyCat AS – Akershus, Norway, Direct Marketing

CopyCat hosted an open house to showcase the capabilities of their newly acquired Xerox Color 1000 Press with clear dry ink. To drive attendance, they sent out cross-media invitations featuring powerful imagery, striking use of clear dry ink and a personalized response website. The campaign generated an over 10% response rate, and helped bring in 20 orders from brand-new customers.
DG3 Asia Limited – Hong Kong, Direct Marketing

DG3 Asia Limited increased their digital printing revenue by 30% by creating an exciting direct mail piece for customers and prospects, showcasing the new print capabilities achievable with their Xerox Color 1000 Press and clear dry ink. They created an eight-page brochure that featured vibrant amusement park imagery, using clear dry ink for impactful silhouettes and panoramas.
QuantumDigital, Inc. – Austin, Texas, Direct Marketing, Printers' Choice Award

QuantumDigital launched a highly personalized, multi-touch cross-media campaign to attract executives and leaders of top agencies and retail brands to their hosted Marketing Innovation and Discovery Summit. Using XMPie PersonalEffect cross-media software and a Xerox iGen4 EXP Digital Press with a FreeFlow Print Server, they produced 1:1 postcards, e-mails, a poster, invitation booklets, and personalized URLs and QR codes. Together, these fueled a conversion rate of 33%, which maximized attendance at this high-level summit, and helped bring in $90,000 of new business within one week.

Photo Publishing
ColorCentric Corporation – Rochester, New York, Photo Publishing

The online photo book publishing company, MyPicTales, partnered with ColorCentric Corporation to produce the portfolio sample books for a photography studio. The studio's custom color profiles were flawlessly reproduced by ColorCentric's Xerox iGen4 Digital Press using a Xerox FreeFlow Print Server on Xerox Color Xpressions® media. Since partnering with ColorCentric in 2008, MyPicTales photo book orders are up 300 percent, with revenue increasing by 25 percent each year.
Easy Print – Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, Photo Publishing

Easy Print created a unique photo book, Power to the People, capturing a photographic record of the political events and uncertainty unfolding in Egypt during early 2011. Each photo was coupled with a QR code linking to a rich media, such as online videos. The books were printed on Xerox Colotech Supergloss 160 gsm paper with a Xerox 700 Digital Color Press and CX Print Server powered by Creo®. Easy Print sold 700 copies within the first two months and saw a 30% jump in customers during the same period of time.
Printshop – Mexico City, Mexico, Photo Publishing

Printshop showcased their photo printing capabilities with a Carnival-themed campaign using colorful, imaginative images. The campaign included a personalized invitation, a PURL for registration, follow-up e-mails, and finally a 152-page personalized hardcover keepsake book for all attendees – printed on a Xerox iGen3 110 Digital Production Press with a CX Print Server powered by Creo. The campaign, which generated a 40 percent conversion rate, thoroughly impressed their client while the quality of the keepsake book thrilled attendees.

EarthColor, Inc. – Parsippany, New Jersey, US, TransPromo

EarthColor Inc. partnered with McGraw Hill Financial Communications to create the Annual Plan Review, which provided an overview of plan investment performance in a convenient and easy-to-read report. The used FreeFlow Process Manager to preflight and impose the files, FreeFlow Output Manager™ then prioritized and scheduled the jobs for maximum production efficiency among EarthColor's five Xerox iGen4 Digital Presses with Xerox FreeFlow Print Servers. Plan sponsors are thrilled to have a single source for all their plan performance and market data.
MBA Group Limited – North London, UK, TransPromo

When insurance provider Legal & General wanted to redesign the bond statements they send to their members, they called on MBA Group. Instead of black-and-white loose-leaf sheets manually inserted into three-ring binders, they now send full-color, personalized statements, printed on a Xerox 980 Color Continuous Feed Printer. Variable data is incorporated using XMPie uDirect®, and unique bar codes are used to ensure data integrity. Results were so positive that Legal & General has moved their entire pension statement and bonus statement mailings to the same platform.
Telemail, S.L. – Madrid, Spain, TransPromo

Iberia, Spain's largest air transport group, turned to Telemail to simplify and reduce the cost of printing statements for their credit card members. By printing the statements on a Xerox 980 Color Continuous Feed Printing System and incorporating variable data for multiple promotional offers, they were able to replace two costly offset production runs with a single cost-effective digital printing run. This lowered printing costs by 30% while keeping document integrity at 100%.
