Cultivate Leaders

Learning and development is a key component to maintain our competitiveness and strengthen our talent base. Our recruiting and development strategies help bring some of the best and brightest employees into challenging roles and experiences at Xerox. We offer learning opportunities for employees worldwide through on-demand eLearning, instructor-led virtual and face-to-face classroom delivery, online collaboration, and performance support. We are continually researching new learning practices that leverage technology, so our employees can adapt quickly to changing market dynamics and requirements.

Our learning strategy focuses on enabling performance and fulfilling potential, rather than just formal training completions. This includes, for example, collaborative learning and user-generated video posted to a "YouTube" type Xerox learning platform for workforce sharing and performance support. We also encourage employee participation in advanced degree and certification programs and, in some cases, provide support with company-paid tuition assistance.

Read about our on-demand learning tools.

Because the education, growth and development of our employees are top priorities, we provide a diverse set of resources available 24/7 online through Learning@Xerox — our global virtual learning environment. Each year, we enable more than 750,000 learning offerings. Approximately 75% are virtual or self-paced learning and 25% is through formal, instructor-facilitated training. Our proprietary learning environment provides our global workforce with a rich catalogue of learning assets that support both their formal and informal development needs.

More than 11,500 eLearning courses are offered in areas such as sales, technical, professional development and compliance training. In 2012, we published more than 900 new or updated eLearning courses for the global workforce. Of these, 468 were new courses, and include Xerox proprietary content and certification. The additional 468 courses were updates to existing content to keep the learning catalogue up-to-date. Also, over 30,000 on-demand learning aids and other assets are available to help our people perform at their best. To personalize all of these resources, there are over 1,700 custom learning paths available to ensure that 100% of the need is met to support the development process for key positions, specific learner populations, and global initiatives.

We have an industry benchmark learning evaluation and assessment framework, as well as web-enabled tools. Evaluation ensures that learning activities are relevant to knowledge, skill gaps, and the development of our employees. Competency Development Impact (CDI) studies provide the additional depth of evaluation to understand what has transferred to the workforce by way of enhanced productivity and examines the resulting impact on business. CDI demonstrates to business leaders the Return on Expectation and Impact on Business of learning. In 2013, we received industry recognition from Bersin & Associates as a “Learning Leader.” Xerox won the WhatWorks® Award for using industry benchmark evaluation tools and processes to identify specific, actionable gaps that helped us improve development and accelerate targeted initiatives for learning transformation.

We designed the company's unique talent management strategy to foster rewarding careers for employees and to develop the next generation of leaders. Managers identify "emerging leaders" on their team and work with these individuals to create development plans that address training, education and future job opportunities. To support this process, all employees have access to our online learning resources to improve functional and professional skills, like development courses aimed to prepare them for management.

At least once per year, CEO Ursula Burns and her senior team conduct detailed reviews of a diverse group of leaders who are poised to assume key management roles. The sessions assess individual performance and attributes of leadership while identifying appropriate career moves to prepare these leaders for much broader responsibilities.

In addition, the company's Human Resource Development Councils provide a forum for senior management to review the future needs of the organization, noting strengths, gaps and strategies to build the best and brightest teams for generations to come.

Measuring customer satisfaction

Serving Customers

Service and support for Xerox products earned five consecutive industry certifications from 2006-2010 under the J.D. Power and Associates Certified Technology Service and SupportSM program. All forms of customer support – phone, on-line, on-site – were evaluated by independent service industry experts who recognized our support services as among the best in class. These certification reviews have ensured we maintain process excellence in technical service delivery.

In 2011, we chose to invest in a new customer satisfaction process to ensure a stronger focus on understanding and fulfilling customer needs and expectations. The new process solicits feedback from our technology customers around the globe and provides detailed insights that help us identify systemic issues and make the necessary changes that ensure strong customer satisfaction. Improved closed-loop follow-up processes also enable faster responses to individual problems.

Energy Use Reduction

Preserving the Planet

We are proud to announce that through the teamwork of Xerox people worldwide we have achieved and surpassed our goals for the Xerox “Energy Challenge 2012” program. In 2003, we established a program and made a public commitment to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by joining the U.S. EPA Climate Leaders program and launching an internal program known as “Energy Challenge 2012.” We adopted a goal of reducing by 10% our absolute GHG emissions across all company operations, by 2012, from a 2002 baseline.

We met this target six years ahead of schedule and in 2007 we set a new and challenging goal to reduce our GHG emissions by 25% by 2012, from the 2002 baseline.

At the conclusion of the corporate Energy Challenge 2012 program, we successfully reduced emissions by 42%, or 210,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e) while saving energy – consumption was down 33% compared with 2002.
