Learning and development is a key component to maintaining our competitiveness and developing our talent base. Our recruiting and development strategies help to bring some of the best and brightest employees into challenging roles and experiences at Xerox. We offer learning opportunities for employees worldwide through online training, virtual classrooms, traditional classroom delivery and online collaboration. We are continually researching and implementing emerging technologies to integrate learning with work. We encourage employee participation in advanced degree programs and, in the U.S., support this with tuition assistance.
Our online training is delivered through the Learning@Xerox Web application. More than 9,500 e-learning courses are offered in areas such as sales, technical, professional development and compliance training. In addition, we offer 15,000 on-demand learning aids and Referenceware that help our people perform their best work. In 2008, this resulted in employees accessing over 295,000 virtual learning offerings worldwide to assist them in their personal development and quest for excellence. Currently, we deliver about 70% of our learning online and 30% in the classroom.
The company’s talent management strategy is designed to differentiate and foster rewarding careers for Xerox employees and to develop the next generation of leaders. Managers identify “emerging leaders” on their team and work with these individuals to create development plans that address training, education and future job opportunities. All employees have access to online training to improve functional and professional skills, and unique development programs are focused on improving employees’ preparedness for management.
At least once a year, Xerox CEO Ursula Burns and her senior team conduct detailed reviews of a diverse group of leaders who are poised to assume key management roles. The sessions assess individual performance and attributes of leadership and, to prepare these leaders for much broader responsibilities, they identify appropriate career opportunities.
In addition, the company’s Human Resource Development Councils provide a forum for senior management to review the future needs of the organization, noting strengths, gaps and strategies to build the best and brightest teams for generations to come.
