| Major Canadian University asks Xerox to Improve the academic lives of students. | | | |

| | | The Problem The University of Calgary wanted to give its students immediate access to the collective knowledge within and without its campus environment. To do this would require a revamp of nearly every device, system or process related to the creation, delivery, storage and sharing of documents across the University -- a daunting task, until they found a partner named Xerox Global Services.
The Solution Xerox Global Services professionals tackled the assignment by first assessing the University's diverse print environment which has over 90 student print labs, each with a different interface. As a part of the solution Xerox will provide the University with a Student Access Management System which will provide digital access control to libraries, campus stores and vending machines. Each students will be assigned a "smart card" giving them access to digital information and when necessary, printers to output information they've selected.
The Result The Xerox solution will help staff, students and faculty to research, teach, and learn through more efficient use of technology, improving the way they all access electronic equipment, digital information and university resources. What's more, while these improvements represent a potential $13.8M savings for the University of Calgary, they also put it on the leading edge of knowledge based information management. | | | | |
