The ENERGY STAR program was initiated in 1993 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, with Xerox as a Charter Partner, as a way to certify products with specific energy saving attributes. The programs requirements become more challenging every few years. For more information visit

ENERGY STAR Version 1.1 became effective July 1, 2009: The International ENERGY STAR program again tightened the ENERGY STAR requirements to increase the benefits to the customer and to the environment. ENERGY STAR Version 1.1 products are measured against Typical Electricity Consumption (TEC) requirements. Duplex options,
signage and documentation are also required.
