Three Groups Praise Xerox Workplace, Diversity Practices | |
 |
Three organizations in the past month have lauded Xerox Corporation for its commitment to diversity and efforts to nurture a "great work place." In addition to making the "best places" lists issued by two Hispanic-focused magazines, Xerox again received a 100 percent score on the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index, which measures gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality.- Hispanic Business magazine published its 2006 list of "Top 50 Companies for Hispanics," and Xerox was ranked No. 19. This is the second year Xerox has made the magazine's "top companies" list. The list reflects the companies that have incorporated diversity into their culture and operations as a strategic tool. The magazine contacted each of the Fortune 500 companies to gauge workforce initiatives in place, programs to reach minority suppliers, philanthropy and more. "What can be said about our top companies is that they are setting the standard for how to do smart business," editors wrote in the September 2006 issue.
- On Aug. 25, Latina Style magazine issued its annual "Latina Style 50," an alphabetical list of best places for Hispanic women to work. It was the seventh year that Xerox has made the Latina Style 50 since 1998. Companies responding to Latina Style's questionnaire were evaluated based on issues that readers identified as most important to them in the workplace, such as mentoring programs, educational opportunities, alternative work policies, dependent/child care support, employee benefits, and affinity groups. More than 800 companies were researched. "We have gone to great lengths to provide a reliable resource for Latinas to evaluate companies, so they can be confident that the Latina Style 50 truly represents some of the best opportunities corporate America has to offer," said Robert E. Bard, president and CEO, Latina Style.
- The Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index examines several factors, including non-discrimination policies, diversity training, employee groups and more. This was the fifth time that Xerox has earned a 100 percent rating from HRC. The company earned 100 percent at the ranking's inception in 2002, one of only 13 companies to do so. Announced on Sept. 19, the 2006 list credited 138 companies with a 100 percent score. HRC contacted more than 1,520 companies requesting information about their policies and practices, and a team of researchers fact-checked data. "This competition sends a clear message that corporate America is rapidly becoming a place of fairness for GLBT Americans," the Campaign said.
Xerox is committed to maintaining an inclusive workplace that values cultural differences, all ways of thinking, and new perspectives. Xerox views diversity in the workplace as a business and competitive advantage, and diversity practices are deployed throughout all core operations including staffing, retention, promotions, leadership development, and workplace initiatives.
