Clarke American
Clarke American Checks, Inc., is the third largest
U.S. check manufacturer. The company enjoys sales
exceeding $260 million, and fills more than 40 million
orders annually for checks and share drafts.
XSIS was engaged by Clarke American to enhance Xerox'
4635MX laser printer so it fully met their requirements.
Foremost among those requirements was the capability to
print on wide format paper stock to accommodate the
mainstream check printing process. XSIS also modified the
systems to run both standard weight check stock and
"duplicate" (lightweight, carbonless) check
stock.
Additionally, XSIS integrated a special bar code
subsystem and our unique Feed Assurance Feature into the
4635MX for stock-to-image-matching. The XSIS FAF ensures
error-free data and stock verification in the printing
process, so the correct paper stock is fed for printing
the image requested, and moves this XSIS customer one
step closer to zero defects.
Using the adapted systems, Clarke American eliminated
traditional numbering machines and changeover
requirements between printing runs, resulting in improved
accuracy, shorter cycle times and faster delivery to the
customer. In addition, consumer testing clearly revealed
that the print quality of the XSIS-delivered systems was
preferred over traditional offset output by the majority
of respondents. The capability of the system to put
variable information on every sheet also sets the stage
for financial institutions that buy checks from Clarke
American to print individualized messages in each
checkbook, achieving a degree of (one-to-one) consumer
marketing highly valued in today's competitive market.
If you have applications that would benefit from
lightweight paper-or need other changes to paper handling
on DocuPrint, DocuTech or channel connected printers-XSIS
is your provider of choice.
Service Bureau
Xerox Special Information Systems was awarded a
contract by a major player in the fulfillment industry.
The company, located in the Midwest (US), focuses on the
financial services sector.
The company previously had four 4635 and two 9790
printers installed to print custom documents and
envelopes for high volume mailings in the specialized
fulfillment business. With their growth approaching
17-20% per year, and their aging 9790 envelope printers
nearing "end-of-life", they needed a strategic
solution for envelope printing. XSIS offered the most
cost-effective solution by providing two multi-functional
4635 printers capable of printing standard documents as
well as envelopes. An innovative implementation plan was
crafted with the customer which made the XSIS offer ideal
for the company? situation.
Satisfied with the initial units, they have expressed
interest in acquiring additional 4635 printers adapted
for envelopes.
Don't settle for make-do solutions when XSIS can
make it right.
International Monetary Fund (IMF)
Xerox Special Information Systems (XSIS) provided a
complete Electronic Printing System to the International
Monetary Fund, for use at their headquarters in
Washington, DC. The Fund prints thousands of economic
studies and reports, in many languages, for use by its
member states around the globe. The Electronic Printing
System is operated by the Graphics Section, which
supports all the printing and publishing of The Fund, and
much of the document creation and composition.
The system is much more than printers -- it integrates
Print Job Management, Workflow Management, and Resource
Management. It enables the Graphics Section to track
their actual costs and charge these costs back to their
internal customers on a job-by-job basis. The major
elements of the system are described below:
Printing subsystem: 7 Xerox high speed printers, with
growth plans for more.
Finishing subsystem: Roll Systems LaserStitchers, on
line with the printers. Also provided was a Xerox
Signature Booklet Maker.
Print Management subsystem: Utilizing the N
Demand-Enterprise product from NEPS, Inc., the Fund's
print shop can assign jobs to the various printers,
manage the print queues, and track the status of jobs.
The system also provides a Document Repository,
electronically storing copies of all their documents for
future re-use.
Workflow Management subsystem: Built around InConcert,
this system plans and tracks the status of all jobs and
the work of not only the printing unit, but also the
knowledge workers in the Art, Composition, and Photo
units.
Resource Management subsystem: The core of this
capability is provided by Logic Associates, makers of the
leading software for managing all aspects of a printing
plant. The Fund's principal use is of the Estimating
module, which enables the Graphics Estimator to quote
cost and schedule information to their internal
customers, and the Resource Tracking module, which rolls
up all costs associated with a job and enables the
chargeback of these costs to customers.
XSIS provided the Program Management, Systems
Engineering, and Systems Integration of all the
components, including the custom software that is
necessary to knit together the three major software
packages.
No one is better qualified than XSIS to complete
large or difficult systems integration projects involving
paper handling devices.
