Flight Crew Manuals

Using an XSIS solution for on-demand lightweight paper printing, airlines can gain control over the timing and processes associated with updating documents that are currently printed on lightweight paper with offset presses. These documents include flight procedures and operations manuals which are carried on board aircraft, and must be updated to reflect policy changes whenever they occur. In addition, there are many lengthy documents used by ground crews for which bulk is more important than weight. Each airline has its own slightly different service/maintenance procedures which supplement the manuals from the aircraft manufacturer. These manuals take up an enormous amount of storage/shelf space and are difficult to handle unless printed on thin paper stock. Like the manuals carried by flight crews, these earth-bound documents are revised on a frequent basis and no delay is acceptable in disseminating the new information to employees. With an XSIS adapted printer, the updates can be printed on an irregular schedule, if needed, and contain all last-minute changes.

Cargo Management

Damage resistant, information dense DataGlyph codes can be printed on cargo labels so they contain more information about the shipment than is practical to write on the cargo container. The DataGlyph can contain special handling instructions, or perhaps information that should not be printed for all to read. In addition, the DataGlyph code can carry all of the shipment manifest information that would normally be accessed by querying an on-line database, which may not be convenient or accessible. Hence, the DataGlyph code can be read at those smaller airport cargo facilities that do not have links (or have only slow links) into the database. Cargo handlers can also read the DataGlyphs on unidentified and misplaced cargo to determine the planned shipment information.
